I think WB needs to step back and really look at what Marvel has done. I know there have been some missteps:

Elektra, Ghost Rider, some would say Spider-Man 3, and Punisher.

But honestly, starting with Blade and working our way up to this Summer's Iron Man, Marvel has done more right than wrong with it's properties. And now that we know that Marvel Studios is definitely eyeing an Avengers project, they are trying to get movies for individual members of the Avengers knocked out. That's the route that WB should go. They have this great well of characters they can draw from, and instead of doing quality movies with the individuals, they are trying to go straigt to the big money...and I'm afraid the results thus far haven't been pretty.

I have to say I was VERY disappointed w/Spider-Man 3. Venom has always been one of my all time favorite villains. And I’ve waited so long to see him brought to the big screen. And then only have him for about 30 minutes?? This movie HACKED him! I have heard a Venom movie is in the works, which hopefully will be a lot better than how they treated him in S3. S3 overall pretty much sucked. The special effects did not make up for the lackluster plot and storylines.

Full Speed Ahead for Justice League
Source: Variety
February 26, 2008

Now that the writers strike has been resolved, Warner Bros. is pushing ahead with its plans to make Justice League in time for a 2009 debut, reports Variety.

Warners tried to get the big screen adaptation into production earlier, but put it on indefinite hold in January, allowing the cast options to expire. At the time, the studio said it didn't want to move ahead until the screenwriters had another shot at the script.

Writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney are busy polishing up the script, which is expected back at the studio in several weeks, and the cast has been advised to keep training for their superhero roles. Director George Miller is in pre-production in Australia.

Adam Brody, cast as the Flash, is the biggest star in the superhero lineup. Rapper Common nabbed the Green Lantern role; other roles went to lesser-known actors such as Armie Hammer Jr. (Batman) and Megan Gale (Wonder Woman).

The trade adds that Justice League, based on the DC Comic, is a huge priority for the studio and considered a launching pad for future superhero projects down the line.

i thought batman was written out of the story. seems like there acre conflicting reports out there. but it is ggod to see that it is moving along.

UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF JLA MOVIE:

Today's Variety confirms yesterday's report from AIC: The 'Justice League' feature film is on track for a 2009 release.

Screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney are hard at work rewriting the script with a deadline to deliver it to Warner Bros in the next few weeks.

The article makes no mention of the rumor that the Batman and Superman characters are being removed from the storyline to prevent conflict with their solo franchises. In listing the cast members, Variety still reports that Armie Hammer Jr. had been cast as the Dark Knight.

Studio sees the film as a critical tentpole for 2009, as well as a launch-pad for other superhero movies.

I appreciate them trying, but in the words of so many Star Wars characters, "I have a bad feeling about this."

I would not want to see Tom Welling in this, I think it would totally kill the character he plays on Smallville compared to JLA, something about that would be bad to me idk, he's my version of Clark Kent and I don't want to see him represent it anyway other than on Smallville

It would be hard to see him in this role. I have gotten so accustomed to him playing CK. People would bring so many expectations of Tom, it would be very hard not to let people down.

Best casting I've seen for this movie so far....i think.

He'll be a good Manhunter but I think he would be an amazing Lobo.

With the recent and honestly shocking news that JLA is expected to be in production this summer the question still remains, Canada or Australia?

Just days before the trades came back with the news that JLA was back, George Miller confirmed that the studio was looking at possibly going to shoot the film in Canada.

But did things change after the studio announced that it was planning to go in front of lens this summer?

We are hearing that Warner Bros. is currently trying to negotiate with the Australian Government to get a better tax break for the production but some of the production staff believe that Canada will end up winning over.

Regarding the status of the rewrites, we've been told the biggest problem with the current script was the lackluster third act. Apparently, the story has already been 100% reworked.

Also, the only department currently working on the film is the "art department" and apparently they are responsible for the major beats of the newly rewritten third act.

A few more new tidbits on the production…we are told some of the designs originally being considered for the look of the film have been described as "ultra-stylized".

And regarding the rumors that Batman and Superman had been removed from the story, "total bullshit" is the exact response we received this afternoon from Australia.

Stay tuned for the latest news from JLA from the IESB.net!

From the Superman Homepage website:

Quote:
George Miller's JLA movie (reportedly titled "Justice League Mortal") looks likely to leave Australian shores and head over to Canada after the Australian Federal Government refused to give the expected 40% rebate Miller was looking for.

"A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Australian film industry is being frittered away because of very lazy thinking," Miller said.

"If that's going to be the final decision, they're throwing away hundreds of millions of dollars of investment that the rest of the world is competing for and, much more significantly, highly skilled creative jobs."

I have just one thing to say..."Justice League Mortal"?

Man, that sounds really bad. Warners just doesn't think these things through.
