So I'm trying to get into superman by reading some comics. i picked up suerpman: return to krypton. now if you read it I have a question. how does he have his abilites on krypton if he is not under a yellow sun? and how exactly did he get to krypton? and what was that ship that crashed in the beginning? I mean I like superman its jsut hard to understand his stories sometimes

I haven't read that trade so I don't know...and as far as I know..he is powerless under a red sun...so I don't know how that works.

I believe that that "Krypton" was a fake version created by Brainiac 13. Im pulling all this from memory but I believe the reason he had powers was because this was not the "true" Krypton that Superman was from. Whatever that means. Good Story though. SUperman: Birthright would be a good place to start to. Superman: For all Seasons is good as well.

All-Star is weird, but I must say issue # 6 made me cry my heart out. Such a moving piece of writing and the artwork is amazing!!!! I am a tough guy though!!!!

All Star Superman is not a cannon book and is just the writers way of bringing a golden age style story to the current world. While it seems dated it is still a strong story and a lot of fun if you are familiar with the older versions of Superman.
Man of Steel is a good starting point and if you want to get into the regular comics I suggest jumping on during the One Year Later story from after the latest Crisis.
