Derek, you really have to get the first 18 out, then people would understand this thing. Classic SHoE! |

I understand the premise of this Civil War, but it felt too real to be truly funny. Now on the other hand, the big fight a couple years ago with Graham, Derek and Tucker (I think it was) felt like a skit with just enough realism to be funny. This was just too real, sorry guys, but it just didn't work for me, and I'm guessing it won't work for a casual or new listener, but that's just my opinion.
Looking forward to the summer and all it holds!

I for one would like some form of humiliation angle.
If Derek loses he must sing the whole song of "you light up my life" on the next ep. of SHoE
If Steve Loses he must twitter every five minutes for an 8 hour stretch.
Granted these are quick idea's that I came up with, but I think some form of reward/punishment is in order for this trivia game, and Iron Derek and Captain Steve must agree to any new terms, if they are true men. |
Might I suggest changing the song to "It's Raining Men"? That would make for an intriquing episode. |

I totally understand if some of you felt it seemed "too real" honestly the whole thing is a work in progress and we were testing the waters to see exactly what needed to be done. It will get better (hopefully funnier) and more exciting as the Summer progresses. |

It's all good. I think most people caught on that it wasn't real. Of course, even when you know it's not real, it's always awkward for the kids when Mom and Dad fight.....
..... I'll let you guys decide which one of you is Mom and which is Dad. |

yeah I just what to take back all the crap i said yesterday, man that was hell cause I didn't know it wasn't real, and then I had to hide the truth so people wouldn't get pissed off, but now I'm very optimistic about the future. |

LOL I can't believe people don't get that!
They must be people on Derek's alliance. |
are you sure about that Jay? I mean REALLY sure? becuase Derek's team has some seriously genious people: Cory, ME, MRluvr. Ya its a good group. But hey you got Alman so we might as well give up. |
Totally, whoever has me is the victor FOR SURE!!!
This was by far the most uncomfortable episode of SHoE yet, but I'm glad to hear that it was all a front (which is what I hoped). Can't wait for some comedy gold!!! |

I forfeit. Captain America wins.
Basically this hilarious concept that Steve came up with got screwed over by a select few numbers of people, it ruined the joke and inadvertently ruined the summer. Let me repeat the whole thing was an elaborate plan on our parts to have some fun and some people just can't appreciate humor.
I, for one, like those films like Superbad or 40 Year Old Virgin when you get to hear the friends insult one another for comedies sake, and thought we had a little bit of that going here but I guess it really wasn't worth the effort to enjoy on some people's behalves.
We're sorry if anyone was offended by this, didn't like the things I said to Steve or vice versa, or just the sheer hilarity of at all. It was a joke and we will address it as such in the next episode. However we're still going to do the trivia contest two episodes from now, so continue to email in your questions.
And on a personal note, if my actions during the course of the "Civil War" were taken literally by any members of these forums, I humbly apologize. Steve will be the first to tell you after our initial argument, the thing erupted into a huge joke about a week later as Steve starting posting on the forums. Steve and I are no longer fighting, the war is over, SHoE is fine. Go back to having fun.
And whoever started the trend of telling people to email SHoE to have me quit and have Will and Steve take over - get 100 signatures on that and we'll talk; I'm not planning on going anywhere. |

If we knew it was a joke before the episode came out me and some other people would have appreciated it more, and would have not bitched about it either, i have apologized many times about my remarks, and some humor just isn't funny to some people and there are many kinds out there and you guys at SHoE make it funny and enjoyable 99% of the time, so keep it up, and let the important information go out a little easier so we all can appreciate it. |

I understood it was meant to be a joke.
However dealing with kids all day, everyday. I hear lots of bullying and then kids saying it was meant in fun as an excuse. So the whole podcast make me feel wickedly uncomfortable. Does that make me a joyless, humourless toady? No. Did I always understand it was meant to be a joke? Yes. But it was unnerving. I love the pithiness and pettyness as part of the Derek and Steve dynamic but this was an approach that I didn't gel with and that's my personality I guess. My friends and I do speak to another like this also, just like the movies Derek mentioned, but I guess when you don't see people's faces some of the tone/meaning can be lost. I do object to people criticising others (like a few pages before) accusing another poster of not getting it. It's not so much a matter of not getting the joke as it is this humour doesn't appeal to everyone.
I personally don't find Jerry Lewis amusing but then I am in the minority. (I don't mean to compare Derek and Steve to him but simply trying to point out that humour is a personal thing.) Some people find me funny, some don't. That's part of life.
I don't think the Civil War needs to be scrapped, some people are really enjoying it, others aren't. I have no feelings either way. The most imporant thing is that we allow people to have an opinion different than our own. We listen to Derek and Steve for their insightful opinions on Smallville, etc and yet we can listen to them disagree or we can disagree with what each is saying. So let's see this Civil War experiment through and remember that we are a great little community!
Thanks |
