Can anyone give me a heads up as to what I need as required reading for the upcoming release of Final Crisis. I have seen some GN out there in the crisis series but am not sure if there is more than that I should get caught up on.

Thanks

What is this Crisis stuff about too if anyone can fill me in, it seems interesting but I'm only getting into comics now, is their prerequisites for this Final Crisi or can I read it stand alone ?

the best thing to do is wiki Countdown to Final Crisis. No...don't do that...uhm...wiki 52...no...that would only confuse you...uhm...wiki Infinite Crisis...nah that would mess you up big time.

There's no easy way to explain it...if you want to jump on Final Crisis, just do it. There should be enough info to get you up to speed as you read.

my plan is
1. Crisis on infinite earths
2. Identity Crisis
3. Countdown to Infinite Crisis
4. Infinite Crisis
5. 52
6. Countdown to final Crisis

i have read to many snippets on wiki not to go ahead and read the massive story arc. I would like to thank Derek for mentioning Kingdom COme, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be planning all of this.

It was right here all along...just below your post ig.

In answer to your question about Crisis, Will can do better than I can...in fact, you could probably wiki it and get all of the info you need.

Years ago, there was a JSA story (I believe it may have been JSA/JLA team up) called Crisis on Multiple Earths. (Not required reading)

Then, in the eighties, DC decided that it was time to clean up continuity. There were multiple Earths, multiple universes and some great characters that weren't getting used because they may have been on Earth 43 or something like that. Also, a lot of the characters had been around so long and their histories had gotten so convoluted, that DC decided, let's do a story that reboots everything. Hence, Crisis on Infinite Earths. In this story, all of the Earths got smashed into one, Barry Allen died, Supergirl died, and it was a huge huge deal.

Crisis became the staple for big events in the DCU. Identity Crisis is a very intimate story when it comes to our heroes. But it's as earth-shattering as Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Infinite Crisis was another reboot. (Not so much needed this time as much as "we couldn't think of anything else to do.") It was a great story that ended with Batman on the lam getting back to his roots, Superman powerless, and Wonder Woman trying to refigure her place in the world. 52 chronicled, in pretty close to real time, the events in the DCU immediately following Infinite Crisis up to ONE YEAR LATER (which was the story arc in a lot of titles after Infinite Crisis). But I get ahead of myself. The crux of Infinite Crisis is that there are a few survivors (originally from alternate earths) from Crisis on Infinite Earths who are living in a pocket dimension of sorts. One of them decides that it's time to create the perfect Earth and thus begins a plan to bring back the multiverse and pick and choose which Earths to combine to make a perfect Earth. Good story.

Afer 52, DC saw that people bought in to the weekly title idea, so they tried to bottle lightning one more time, not as successfully, and have for the past almost a year been publishing Countdown. (Now Countdown to Final Crisis.) Apparently, this is it, the big one. All you really need to do is pick up Final Crisis and go from there. It will most likely, throughout the story give you the info you need to know what's going on. Of course, if you have any questions, this is the place to ask.

WHEW!!!! That was a lot.

Wasn't Crisis on Infinite Earths the "birth" of Powergirl...among others?

well she was kinda written more prominently at this time, yes.

Crisis on Infinite Earths has the Monitor destroying all the different parallel worlds (some include the Crime Syndicate and elseworld stories). It was a good story.

Identity Crisis was great! very touching.

Infinite Crisis was decent-good. much shorter than CIE. stirred up the universe a lot.

52 was off and on (it is hard to have 52 great issues of course). (and now you should check out the new Booster Gold series, which is much better than i thought it would be)

Countdown started out interesting and then started to be lame. and the spin-offs just needed to stop.

i will read Final Crisis. hopefully it's good, but i don't see how it'll really be the "final" one.

Very Happy

was Powergirl was around before then?

Identity Crisis, I feel, was the most realistic Crisis of them all.

and I agree with you, Will, the Booster Gold that 52 created was really good. I like him a lot like that.

Powergirl's first appearance was in All Star Comics #58 back in Jan/Feb 1976. So yes, she was around before then. LOL

I bought crisis on infinite earths the other day, and I plan to either buy or use the library for the title that i can check out. I have looked at wikipedia and while I can get the jist of what is going on, I want the full exposure to this huge story arc.

so far so good.

saw new frontier last night and loved it!!!

Ah. But like many others, it was after the Crisis's when she (and they) became big.

...right?

right. there was even a story arc (maybe in supergirl?) where powergirl was figuring out who she was (from the future, axtually supergirl with different memories, blah blah blah). now we know. and she's also in the JSA right now.

And just to say, Powergirl is another Earth's (or universe's) Supergirl that now is on the "real" earth.
